Last week five Carmel students visited Oxford University, staying overnight at Mansfield College. On the first day, the group had the opportunity to look around the various colleges and the Bodleian Library.
On the second day, there was a timetable of events organised by Mansfield. This began with a valuable introduction to studying at Oxford, with emphasis on the unique tutorial system. This was followed by panel sessions in the subject areas that students are interested in, giving them the opportunity to ask questions regarding specific courses.
The day concluded with a tour of the different colleges led by an Oxford student, who happened to be from Carmel College, giving “real insights” into studying at this prestigious university.
The experience of visiting Oxford is invaluable to anyone contemplating an application. It was particularly helpful in demonstrating the inclusive nature of the institution towards students from all countries and all walks of life.
