On 27th January, twenty Carmel students visited Strasbourg to participate in the Euroscola event at the European Parliament.
During the event, students had the unique opportunity to simulate the role of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). This immersive experience allowed them to understand the legislative process and the responsibilities of MEPs. One of the main activities was participating in a debate on the European Union’s moves towards zero pollution. This debate was both enlightening and thought-provoking, including discussion about various strategies and policies that aim to reduce pollution and promote sustainability across Europe.
During their trip, the group also visited the magnificent Strasbourg Cathedral. This iconic landmark, with its stunning Gothic architecture and intricate details, provided a perfect blend of history, art, and culture, enriching their overall experience in Strasbourg.
After Strasbourg, our students also had the opportunity to spend an afternoon in Paris. This brief visit allowed them to explore some of the city’s renowned attractions and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. Although their time in Paris was short, it was a delightful addition to the trip, offering a glimpse of the city’s charm and elegance.
Carmel’s Head of Politics, Tim Holden, said: “Our trip to Strasbourg for the Euroscola event was a valuable educational experience. The opportunity to engage in a simulated parliamentary debate, coupled with visits to significant cultural landmarks, made this trip both informative and enjoyable. We returned with a deeper understanding of the European Parliament’s workings and a greater appreciation for European culture and history.”
