Our resident Laboratory Technician, Mark Kelly, has recently completed his year-long course accredited by STEM and the University of York!
To build his confidence as an established lab technician, Mark decided to enrol on a higher education course to further his professional development. The course consisted of 3 residential segments focusing on laboratory management and managing a team of technicians. The content of these segments were broken down into 5 units which covered the following topics:
- Science and The Technical Services
- Leadership and Management
- Safely Running A Lab
- Delivering Training and Providing Effective Training
- Managing Future Projects
When we spoke with Mark he said:
“I decided to do the course because after working in the profession for eight and a half years, I wanted to expand my own career path and to try and gain the skills needed to lead a team. As well as finding future avenues to give people the experience and knowledge after completing my own apprenticeship on the course.”
Now that Mark has completed his course it offers him the opportunity to lead his own team in the future. Not only that, but it has also given Mark the skills needed to train others and pass his knowledge on to new technicians. We are so proud of Mark for furthering his learning and achieving his fantastic results, congratulations!
