Today, former student Lily Spendlove, came back to Carmel to talk about starting up a #Let’sChat lunchtime drop in session. These sessions will eventually be led by some of our students to support others who are experiencing mental health issues.
Lily is currently studying Psychology at Edge Hill University. Alongside her studies she is also the Chair Person for The Lee Cooper Foundation. The charity was formed when Lily’s best friend, Lee Thornley, sadly took his own life in February 2018. The charity aims to change the stigma around poor mental health and to help as many people as possible.
Over several weeks, Lily will be training some of our students so they will be able to confidently help others during the #Let’sChat lunchtime drop in sessions in college. As part of their training they will cover topics including mental health issues, coping methods, listening skills, safeguarding and much more.
We are very proud of everything Lily has achieved so far! It is fantastic to have her back in college working with our students.
The Lee Cooper Foundation has a #LET’SCHAT drop in session, every Tuesday 5pm-9pm at Comics Youth HQ in Liverpool City Centre. It is a safe space for teenagers to visit and unload any concerns and worries they may have.
