The introduction of Girls Rugby League at Carmel has been a great success amongst our female students. Eleven girls showed a huge amount of courage and effort tackling a Girls Rugby Festival at Huddersfield College after only four weeks of training preparation. Seven colleges in total attended the national festival and the girls managed two draws with Astley and Cronton College (who were unbeaten all day until drawing with our team) and we unfortunately lost to Pontefract New College. The team just missed out on the semi-finals on goal difference, but they took on teams with more experience who train all year round. The girls showed a great deal of desire and played with a smile on their faces all tournament.
Coach Kieran Lacey said “Great effort from the girls! Definitely, something to build on. Every girl gave 110%, really proud of them! And the ONLY team to take points off the winners Cronton!”
Well done girls!
