On Thursday 6th March, we held the internal heat for the Catenians Public Speaking competition in our Dalton theatre. The event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their speaking skills while exploring thought-provoking topics.
The winner of the evening was Lower Sixth student, Ethan Potter, who delivered an insightful speech titled “AI – Blessing or Curse?” Ethan, who is currently studying A Level Psychology, English Language, and Graphic Design, captivated the audience with his reflections on the impact of artificial intelligence in today’s society. Ethan aspires to pursue Psychology at the University of Manchester and is excited to take his passion for therapy into a future career.
The runner-up of the event was Lower Sixth student, Beth Perry, who presented a compelling argument on “Why are we exploring space?” Beth, studying A Levels in English Literature, Geography, and Sociology, shared her deep interest in both the history of our world and its future. She hopes to one day work in environmental conservation, rural and urban planning, or educational psychology, fields where she can contribute to shaping a better world.
Anna O’Neill also impressed the judges with her speech titled “There is a lot of difference between listening and hearing.” Anna spoke passionately about the importance of effective communication in all areas of life. Looking ahead, she hopes to join the RAF as a nurse or pursue a career as a doctor, where she can combine her scientific knowledge and compassion.
The evening was a great success, and we are incredibly proud of all our students. Congratulations to Ethan, Beth, and Anna for their outstanding performances, and a big thank you to everyone who supported and attended the event!
