Eight students from Carmel proudly represented the college at the European Youth Parliament (EYP) regional finals held at Liverpool John Moores University.
This prestigious event brought together young minds from various schools and colleges to engage in thoughtful debates on pressing issues affecting Europeand the world.
One of the key debates presented by Carmel College focused on the critical issue of reintegration methods for ex-convicts in the European Union. The topic, titled “Citizens Behind Bars,” addressed the alarming statistic that approximately 55% of all ex-convicts face homelessness upon release. The debate centred on how the European Union can establish effective reintegration methods to prevent or reduce the downward spiral of mental illness, negative social stigma, and recidivism.
Carmel College’s participation in the EYP regional finals was a testament to the students’ dedication, knowledge, and passion for addressing important societal issues. The event provided an invaluable platform for the students to develop their debating and public speaking skills while contributing to meaningful discussions on European and global politics.
Congratulations to all the students who took part in this event!
