After our Ofsted inspection last month, we are delighted to announce that we have once again received an Outstanding rating!
Following previous outstanding ratings in 2002, 2007 and 2019, this latest Ofsted Report rated our Catholic sixth form college as outstanding in five out of six areas. Inspectors praised Carmel for having a “caring and supportive culture” where students have “very high aspirations” and are “consistently challenged by teachers to reach their full potential.”
After a meticulous and thorough inspection, the following judgements were made:

The inspectors highlighted several key strengths that make Carmel College an exceptional place to learn:
Outstanding Education: Students consistently achieve excellent results and make remarkable progress, with many moving on to highly competitive university courses, degree apprenticeships, and meaningful employment.
High Aspirations: Carmel students thrive in a culture of challenge and ambition, working carefully to achieve their highest potential. The ‘Carmel mindset’ encourages perseverance, independent learning, and academic excellence.
Inclusive and Caring Environment: Our community celebrates diversity and fosters compassion, respect, and understanding. Enrichment activities and cultural societies enhance students’ personal growth and prepare them for life beyond college.
Expert Teaching and Leadership: The inspection praised our skilled and experienced staff, whose commitment ensures that every student benefit from consistently high-quality teaching and support.
Comprehensive Guidance: From exceptional pastoral care to career planning and progression support, students are fully equipped to achieve their aspirations in both education and life.
Our college Principal Janet Gater said the result is a “testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of our students, staff, governors, and stakeholders.”
