Yesterday our Carmel College Rugby League team became National Champions!!
They gave an outstanding performance at the Rugby League National Finals against Brighton’s Newman College and secured the win early on in the game, with the final score being 60 – 4.
This is absolutely amazing for all the team, but especially for our Upper Sixth students; what an amazing game to leave college with. We are so proud of the team for the hard work they have put in their training sessions. We would like to thank our Coach, Clive Griffiths, for his dedication to the team. This is his first year here at Carmel and he has really boosted the rugby programme here and is making it something amazing.
Clive played rugby union and rugby league in the 1970s and 1980s and coaches rugby union and rugby league today. During his time with the Welsh rugby league team, he guided them twice to the semi-final stage of the World Cup and won the European championship for the first time in 57 years. We are so grateful to have someone with his talent, skills, and professionalism leading our team!
