Four of Carmel’s Elite Athletes represented the college in the Merseyside Schools’ Cross Country Championships earlier this month, qualifying for the English Schools’ final in March!

Upper 6th student Gabriel Mullen from De La Salle, and Lower 6th students Liam Johnson from Rainhill High, Hannah Hull from King’s Leadership and Lily Birkett from Rainford High, all put in a spectacular performance at the event which was held at Range High School Formby.

Liam won the senior men’s race finishing the 5km course in a blistering time of 14.13 minutes! Gabe also put in a determined effort, finishing finish 3rd in a time of 14.52 minutes.

In the senior girls’ race, it was a much closer battle with Hannah finishing at the front of a small group, claiming 3rd place in a time of 15.16 minutes. Lily was pipped in a sprint for the line by a single second, claiming 5th place in a time of 15.24 minutes. All four of the Carmel athletes have now qualified for the ESAA (English Schools’ Athletics Association) national final on Saturday, 15th March at Ardingly Showground in West Sussex.

Huge congratulations, we are exceptionally proud of your achievement and wish you all the best in the final! Find out more about Carmel’s Elite Athlete Support Programme
