As part of the Enrichment Programme at Carmel, students can learn to speak Mandarin. Staff from the Confucius Institute in Liverpool teach classes each week.
The college has been working with the Institute for 5 years. Students can complete the HSK Mandarin courses and gain a qualification. Alongside learning the language, the students are also exposed to key aspects of the Chinese culture. There is also the opportunity to visit China on the annual trip organised through the Institute.
To celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year, which is the Year of the Rat, students have enjoyed sampling some traditional Chinese delicacies to mark this key event in the Chinese calendar. They have also learnt how to express “Be happy and prosper this year” as a hand gesture by interlinking their fingers.
Happy Chinese New Year!
