This week the Carmel Girls Rugby Team travelled to Wakefield for the first Rugby League Festival of the season.
Carmel joined forces with St John Rigby College to face much more experienced opposition from Cronton College, Warrington Foundation Ladies and Wakefield’s Foundation side. Despite having only just met each other, the girls worked together really well as a team.
The first game against Cronton got off to a great start with Olivia Ditchfield almost scoring with her first ever run. Although the girls tried their hardest, they lost the game 2-0.
Next up was Wakefield and although the girls gave it their all, playing back to back games was quite tiresome and the three late tries saw us lose 3-0.
The final game against Warrington saw the Carmel and St John Rigby girls win 5-4. Carmel’s Emily Tandy and Abigail Collins both crossed the line for tries.
We are looking to continue to build on this success and if any girls would like to join the team, training is on Friday lunch time at 1pm. Contact kieran@carmel.ac.uk for more information.
