Our Upper Sixth Geography students braved the winter weather recently to collect data for their Independent Investigation.

At Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve in Barrow-in-Furness, they collected data relating to changes in vegetation and microclimate. They recorded the differences at increasing distances from the sea.

They also visited Morecambe, where they experienced the worst of the weather! There they investigated beach profiles, the impact of coastal defences and the impact of Regeneration Schemes on the urban area.

Our students always find the fieldwork a very enjoyable part of the Geography course. This year’s group had a great time. Head of Geography, Kieron Vesey said “Geography students are simply the best!”
