A level Biology was by far my favourite subject at Carmel. The lessons were always engaging, the modules interesting and varied, and the tutors were both extremely knowledgeable about the subject and willing to provide extra support and help to you whenever you need it.
What I loved most about the subject was the wide range of topics we covered, from molecules and cells, to biological processes and organs, to ecosystems and nutrient cycles. My favourite topics were the ones we covered in Y13 as they allowed us to look much more in-depth at complex and interesting ideas such as DNA technologies, the processes of photosynthesis and respiration, and nerves and muscles.
However, the work inside the classroom is only part of Biology as there are so many enrichment opportunities to take part in. I loved the Biology Beyond research tasks which the teachers posted every half term as these allowed me to research unfamiliar, exciting areas of biology from beyond the curriculum, such as parasites, rare blood groups, ultra-processed foods, prions and my personal favourite, rewilding.
Getting to learn about new areas of Biology was fascinating, plus the tasks allowed me to improve my research and writing skills.
