Government funding changes to Level 3 qualifications

There has been a government review of vocational courses (usually called BTEC courses) since last year.  The following BTEC courses offered by Carmel College will be phased out by July 2025 and replaced with Alternative Academic Qualifications (AAQs):-

• Applied Human Biology Extended Certificate (Single)
• Applied Science Extended Certificate (Single)
• Engineering Extended Certificate (Single)
• Health & Social Care Extended Certificate (Single)
• Information Technology Extended Certificate (Single)

Information for 2025 applicants

Applicants with an offer to study a BTEC subject that is being phased out will receive an email before enrolment containing further information and confirmation that you will be able to study the new AAQ in the same subject.

Entry requirements for the AAQs remain the same as for the BTECs. Full course details can be found on individual subject pages.
