Last week, twenty eight of our students arrived in the Peak District to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Qualifier Expedition. The expedition consisted of five nights and four days where students participated in a minimum of 6 hours walking per day, alongside practising survival skills such as camping and cooking on stoves in the countryside.

Over the four days our students covered just over 70km! Overall, there have been plenty of sore feet, new friendships made, laughter, tears and some long days out on the hills. However, thanks to their collective resilience and persistence, our group of expeditioners have successfully completed their qualifying expedition and made it back home safely; with a couple stating “they have actually enjoyed not having their phone”.

The Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award aims to inspire young people to develop initiative, a spirit of adventure and discovery by planning, training and completing an adventurous self-sufficient journey as part of a team.
