Applicant Taster Day on Monday, July 1st, 2024, 8.30 am – 3.25 pm

These sessions will allow you to gain hands-on insight into your chosen courses and meet fellow applicants and teachers. Our Taster Day sessions will be running throughout the day.

What happens on my Taster Day?

Pre-Arrival Information:

At Carmel College, we prioritise sustainable transportation with our “Green Travel Plan,” encouraging visitors to explore alternative modes of transport beyond car journeys. Situated 1.5 miles from St Helens town centre on the A58 Prescot Road, and 4 miles from the centre of Prescot, our campus is easily accessible. Additionally, the Red Rocks public footpath, which borders our college playing fields and extends towards Knowsley Road, provides an alternative route for pedestrians.

Rail Travel:

For those traveling by train, Carmel College is conveniently located within a 10-minute walk from both Thatto Heath and Eccleston Park Rail Stations. These stations are part of the main line between Wigan North Western Station and Liverpool Lime Street Station.

Travel by Car:

Drop-off and parking facilities are provided at West Park Rugby Club, adjacent to the college entrance. Designated parking spaces for disabled drivers can be accessed at the college’s front and side entrances.

Travel by Bus:

Traveling here couldn’t be easier, even if you don’t live nearby.

The college is accessible via main public bus routes from Knowsley, St Helens, Liverpool, Golborne, and Leigh areas. We also offer a FREE contracted bus service covering Widnes and Westbrook, Warrington, as well as other paid services around the Warrington area.

For those using our FREE contracted bus services, we have informed the bus drivers that applicants will be traveling to and from Carmel College during our taster day.

The taster days are tailored for prospective students who have applied to the college and have a specific interest in certain subjects or programmes. These events aim to help students confirm their preferences or narrow down their choices,

When will I receive my timetable for the day?

You’ll receive your Applicant Taster Day timetable a week before the event.

I have medical or additional needs, what should I do?

You may have already enquired about this during your interview, so we likely have a record of your specific requirements. Please ensure you include any important details on your Taster Day registration form, which has been emailed to you.

What do I bring with me?

At Carmel, you wear your own clothes, experience flexible learning, and enjoy more independence. We suggest bringing a pen and paper to take notes. Additionally, having cash on hand for drinks, food, and bus fare is advisable.

Make sure to have your sports kit ready for any upcoming sports activities and trials!

What is Carmel+ and what happens in this session?

Starting your journey at Carmel this September involves more than just selecting your academic subjects. Our college life offers a diverse array of Enrichment activities, clubs, and societies, catering to varied interests such as team sports, the Debate Society, Chess Club, Drama Club, and much more. The Carmel+ session provides an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into these offerings. You can engage with staff and students and attend Talks at the Dalton Theatre to learn more.

 

What happens at break and lunch time?

We want your Taster Day experience to be truly enjoyable and memorable. To ensure just that, we offer a variety of outdoor activities, including giant board games, bowling, and table tennis. You can socialise with fellow applicants from your course and relax at Costa Coffee or in the college restaurant and Costa Coffee Bar.
