We are pleased to announce that we have applied to become part of the European Parliament Ambassador School Programme!
The European Parliament Ambassador Programme (EPAS) helps increase students’ awareness of European parliamentary democracy, the role of the European Parliament and European views.
The programme encourages students to actively participate in EU democratic processes. If Carmel’s application is successful it opens up fantastic opportunities for the students. Through the fully funded EuroScholar programme, they will get to travel to Brussels or Strasbourg as well as other exciting activities. Our students will get certificates presented to them by local representatives of the EU if they become junior ambassadors.
As part of Carmel’s application, our Lower Sixth students have been debating the advantages and disadvantages of the European Union. There were some excellent contributions to the debate from our students with plenty of passionate argument on display. They demonstrated excellent research and knowledge when developing their arguments. The students also took part in annual debates at the Athenaeum Club in Liverpool city centre. Against other local schools and colleges from Merseyside, they discussed the future of the European Union, climate change, and renewable energy sources. All of our students displayed some excellent debating skills in arguing these two motions on the EU and in the second debate on the development of sustainable forms of energy. Our students were able to display superb skills of public speaking developing convincing arguments based on their detailed research. They received some fantastic feedback from the organisers of the event.
Our next event sees us visit Liverpool Hope University to take part in the regional finals of the European Youth Parliament debating competition after the Easter holidays. All Carmel students are welcome to apply to be part of this team. Contact tim@carmel.ac.uk if you are interested.
