Twenty Lower Sixth students travelled to Grasmere in the Lake District for their final Duke of Edinburgh training day walk before their practice expedition at the end of March. The training focussed on mountain hazards such as traversing steep slopes whilst carrying a full expedition backpack complete with tents and stoves. Students also tested their navigation skills in poor weather conditions, many paths were flooded and they had to find alternative routes. Due to the torrential rain it was also a good test of their kit and has certainly made some of them re-think what clothing they are going to bring in the future. Even though it was a very wet day it was a great experience for our students.
